The development team at Lionhead might be unwilling to reveal the launch date for its upcoming Fable Legends, but the studio is ready to talk about the characters that gamers will be able to use when they return to the world of Albion later this year.

The focus of a new official blog is Rook, who is described as a season warrior who hails from the Deadlands and is now moving south in order to answer a mysterious call for heroes who are able to protect the land.

The company explains, “A born leader, Rook believes in honour, justice and the sort of sensible short haircut required for hand-to-hand combat. Now he’s down in the softer South, Rook sees it as his job to bring a little northern common sense to all things, and will speak his mind on this when he feels he has to.”

The character previously served in the Strangers, which means that he is proficient with a repeating crossbow and is able to discern between the various types of monsters that the player will encounter during their travels.

Lionhead adds, “Always direct and to the point, Rook is a man of few words (and the occasional hand gesture), but you will always know where you stand with him. You’d just better hope that’s not standing at the wrong end of his bow.”

There’s plenty of lore for fans of Fable to get through in the character reveal, but the company seems to be unwilling to offer actual information on the abilities that Rook will have in Legends and how his unique skills can be mixed with those of the other heroes.

The blog post also features a long digression about the motto of the Strangers and its inclusive nature as an organization.

Fable Legends should be launched before the end of the year and will be offered exclusively on the Xbox One from Microsoft.

Gamers who get it will be transported to a period 400 years before the events of the rest of the trilogy and will be allowed to become either heroes or villains and take actions that will affect the state of the world.

Lionhead has said that heroes will use cooperative mechanics in order to take out enemies, while the evil players will need to use creatures in order to thwart their progress.

The company will soon offer more information on the other characters included in Fable Legends.
