Developer Subset Games has offered additional details regarding the upcoming additions scheduled for FTL: Advanced Edition, the free expansion for their popular space roguelike game.

Although no specific date has been mentioned, the latest FTL news update tells of the new systems and subsystems players will be able to utilize in-game.

The Clone Bay is an alternative to the Medbay, which will provide a new clone whenever a crew member dies, albeit with a slight skill penalty compared to the original prime material. The Clone Bay will also provide a small amount of healing for all crew members every jump.

Hacking will be introduced to the game, and the devs confess that it was one of the most challenging aspects of the expansion. Players will be able to launch hacking drones that will attach to a chosen system on the enemy vessel, blocking the doors and offering various options to disrupt it, such as delaying weapon fire or teleporting enemy boarders back to their ship.

The Mind Control system will temporarily turn an enemy into an ally, and available upgrades will increase the duration of the effect as well as bestow health and combat boost to the new-found ally.

A Backup Battery will also be afforded to power-hungry players, providing 4 extra reactor bars for 30 seconds when fully upgraded, the only downside being that it has a 25-second cooldown between uses.

Several other minor additions and tweaks will also be implemented, such as clearer reward boxes, visual improvements and an additional Hard difficulty setting with more challenging enemies and lower scrap rewards, designed to keep the game interesting for veterans of Normal mode.

The team also mentioned that they would be looking into Android as well as other touch devices once the iPad version of FTL will launch.
