Anonymous hacked the official website of the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and its partner site the National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW), defacing them to post an anti-ACTA protest message and an amusing video that shows the devastating effects the pact has on Internet freedom.

FTC came forward with a statement to reveal that the affected sites are taken offline until the security issues that allowed the hackers to gain access are resolved.

“The Bureau of Consumer Protection’s Business Center website and the partnership site NCPW run by the Federal Trade Commission were hacked earlier today,” FTC Office of Public Affairs Director Cecelia Prewett said.

“The FTC takes these malicious acts seriously. The sites have been taken down and will be brought back up when we’re satisfied that any vulnerability has been addressed.”
