Fujitsu Siemens Computers has just announced that its line of CELSIUS workstation computer systems will now boast NVIDIA's Tesla technology in both current and future mid- and high-end products. According to Fujitsu, the use of NVIDIA's Tesla technology will provide its customers with more efficient and higher-performance computer systems that can deliver the equivalent computing power of a cluster at 1/100th of the price. The Tesla-enabled CELSIUS workstations will provide the performance of a supercomputer in the form factor of a standard desktop workstation.

“Combining NVIDIA Tesla with our CELSIUS workstation range will be an immense improvement in performance for our customers,” said Niels Keunecke of Fujitsu Siemens Computers. “GPU computing is an extremely significant trend for any professional whose work involves complex, data-intensive computations. By creating Fujitsu Siemens Computers CELSIUS Personal Supercomputers we can give them access to 100 times the processing power of a standard workstation and high-end visualisation capabilities in one affordable package.”

NVIDIA's Tesla technology is known for its high level of performance, thanks to the integration of the CUDA parallel computing architecture. The NVIDIA CUDA technology is designed to enable developers and researchers to take advantage of the massive parallel computational power of NVIDIA's Tesla GPUs, through the implementation of the industry standard C language. The C1060 GPU computing processor that will be at the base of Fujitsu's CELSIUS workstations offers 240 cores, enabling the card to deliver scalable, energy-efficient performance.

Bernhard Gleissner, NVIDIA vice president EMEA and India, said, “Leading institutions including the Max Planck Institute and Cambridge University are already advancing their research using GPU-based personal supercomputers. Working with Fujitsu Siemens Computers will help us to bring this discovery-accelerating technology to an even wider audience.”

Fujitsu Siemens Computers announced that the CELSIUS workstations, leveraging on NVIDIA's Tesla computing processors, would be available in Europe starting this month.
