FLO TV Incorporated, one of Qualcomm Incorporated's subsidiary companies, has announced the enhancement of its mobile TV service, by developing a series of applications capable of integrating video with social media tools and Web-based content. These new features are FLO TV's solution to the way customers are now viewing and interacting with content at the same time.

“With consumers’ mobile entertainment habits evolving rapidly, FLO TV will be integrating its current live linear video with relevant, on-demand content and interactive features that complement the programming viewers are watching in real-time,” Bill Stone, president of FLO TV, said. “Our innovative, nationwide multicast network is at the heart of this solution and will allow us to distribute live mobile TV and rich mobile media services to a range of new devices – from smartbooks to e-readers and tablets.”

The company also announced an increase in their mobile TV services, which amongst others will include time-shifted viewing, interactive capabilities or pay-per-day passes. This array of new features will become available on the FLO TV network starting with the second half of 2010. Data consumption has been constantly rising due to the increasing popularity of mobile devices like smartphones, tablets or e-readers. FLO TV's nationwide network is able to avoid mobile-network congestion in order to meet the customer demand regarding mobile media access.

Some of the new service applications will include: - Pay-per-day will enable FLO TV customers to watch FLO TV services without having to pay a monthly subscription thus offering more flexibility. - Time-shifted viewing also known as “catch-up TV” is able to store popular shows on FLO enabled devices, allowing customers to watch their favorite shows any time they want, even if located out of a coverage area. - The new interactive features enable users to interact with programming as well as click in order to receive detailed information about a program or advertised product.

FLO TV service is already available on a large number of platforms that include mobile handsets, as well as the new FLO TV Personal Television, the first portable digital TV with a dedicated network. FLO TV Auto Entertainment, a system developed in collaboration with Audiovox, is especially designed for vehicles and can offer high-quality mobile TV.
