The focus of much of the gaming world might be on FIFA 15, but EA Sports continues to add new features and to upgrade the alternative take on the football sim genre, FIFA World, which is set to receive a new game engine in the coming months in order to improve the overall experience for those who want a free title to enjoy.

The tech that the studio will use seems to be based on the engine that is currently powering the series on the PC and consoles from Sony and Microsoft, although the level of realism is more limited.

3.5 million gamers have registered to play FIFA World since the game was first announced during Gamescom 2014, and the company says that 45 million matches have been played on average systems.

The title includes 30 officially licensed leagues, and 20 major updates have been delivered so far.

Mike McCabe, the executive producer working on the game, is quoted as saying that “In FIFA World we have created a live service platform that allows us to fundamentally change the game by adding new features and modes through regular updates, all while keeping fans engaged with dynamic live content that follows the real world of football.”

The new engine for FIFA World will have smarter Artificial Intelligence for all teammates, so that they can adapt to the gamer’s style.

All players should also mark better and track run, and both first touch control and complete dribbling offer the player more control, while a set of updated physics is implemented in order to make tackles more interesting.

EA Sports is also upgrading the support for the mouse and keyboard and controller setups, and the studio has already made improvements to how free kicks are set up and executed.

The company adds, “To complement the new game engine, fans can expect a number of updates in the coming months with new features such as video sharing, which will allow fans to upload their goal replays directly to YouTube, as well as roster updates, new kits, boots and club badges, as well as the addition of the Turkish Super Lig.”

FIFA World is at the moment focused on Asian and Eastern markets and has not managed to make much of an impact in the West.

FIFA 15 will be out in late September on the Xbox One, the PC, the PlayStation 4, and last-gen consoles.
