Followed by Ghosts, Assassin's Creed IV and Battlefield 4

FIFA 14, the EA Sports made football simulation, is the game that sits at the top of the United Kingdom chart for the week that ended on January 4, which means that the title is the first number one of the New Year.

The experience was also the leader for the last two weeks of 2013 and that means that it might enjoy a rather long reign at the top, seeing how both January and February are periods when game releases are limited in the AAA space.

EA Sports has also promised that it will deliver more updates to tweak gameplay on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and current-gen consoles.

Call of Duty: Ghosts, the first-person shooter from developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision, sits in second place, a position that it has not left for about 30 days.

The performance has been inferior to that of previous launches in the series and it will be interesting to see whether coming downloadable content packs will be able to bring it back to number one.

The last position on the United Kingdom podium belongs to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, which is rather surprising considering that the pirate-themed sequel was initially dismissed by some fans of the series.

The UKIE data shows that Battlefield 4 remains on the fourth place, which comes as a surprise given that the shooter from DICE and Electronic Arts is still plagued by serious problems when it comes to the various multiplayer modes.

The fifth place is occupied by Grand Theft Auto V, which seems to lack long-term appeal regardless of the content that Rockstar is pumping into its Online mode.

Need for Speed: Rivals, from Electronic Arts, is in the seventh place and just behind it sits LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, from Warner Bros. Interactive.

Minecraft: The Xbox 360 Edition has managed to gain one position to move to eight at the expense of Just Dance 2014, which drops to ninth.

Gran Turismo 6 closes down the UK top ten.
