The MMO cannot compete even during its first week on the market

FIFA 14, the EA Sports made football simulation, has managed to retake the number one position in the United Kingdom video game chart despite the fact that it is competing with a range of titles that have been launched over the last few weeks.

The game has been available since September 2013 and it’s a testament that the experience has remained competitive and that it can move more copies to fans than other high-profile releases.

EA Sports plans to launch a new 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil title on April 15 in the United States and April 17 in Europe, but the experience will only be offered on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

The core FIFA 14 experience will apparently get access to content based on the real-world competition via downloadable content packs.

For the week that ended on April 5, the data offered by UKIE shows that the most important new release, The Elder Scrolls Online, has managed to only reach number two, which is not a good sign for the long-term prospects of the new MMO.

The experience was created by ZeniMax Online and by Bethesda and is designed to take gamers back to a period one thousand years before the events of the single-player titles in the series, in order to allow them to align their interests with one of three alliances that seek to dominate Tamriel.

The MMO uses a subscription-driven business model, which the developers claim will ensure that they get access to high quality content in the future.

The last position on the United Kingdom video game podium belongs to Titanfall, the first-person shooter from developer Respawn Entertainment and publisher Electronic Arts, which has not moved since the previously tracked period.

Call of Duty: Ghosts, the title launch in 2013 by Infinity Ward and Activision, is in fourth place, probably helped by the release of the second downloadable content pack for it, called Devastation.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, the new title from Hideo Kojima, is in fifth place, quite a big slide from the second position it managed during the previous week.

InFamous: Second Son, from Sucker Punch and Sony, a title that’s only offered on the PlayStation 4, has slid from first place to sixth position, followed by The LEGO Movie Video Game.

South Park: The Stick of Truth lies in eight, with the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft in ninth and Battlefield 4 from DICE and EA closing down the United Kingdom chart.
