Electronic Arts’ Sports division has talked about its upcoming FIFA 13 soccer simulator and defended the new AI system that will make players clumsier, saying that it will generate a feeling of uncertainty that should make matches much more memorable.

FIFA 13 is set to introduce an array of new features, but already some of them are causing heated debates among the fans of the popular soccer (football) simulator.

Chief among these is a new AI system that’s going to commit more mistakes during an actual match.

According to EA’s David Rutter, this change has been made in order to humanize the AI and generate an “unpredictable predictability”.

“The tweaked defending and the ability to muscle past players, combined with your AI team-mates who are now making exciting, useful attacking runs off the ball; the new Complete Dribbling, First Touch Control, and even the work we're doing in our new tactical free kicks this year; all of these things go together to create memorable, exciting moments - but at the same time are wrapped up in a very authentic manner that feels true to real football,” he told CVG.

All these features are going to result in one of the best FIFA titles of all time, according to Rutter, who believes that it’s going to combine the best aspects of previous installments into an exciting package.

“Having that as the foundation that everything else is built on is the key part to making things more realistic. Maybe it won't be as exciting this season. FIFA 09 and 10 were very exciting... sometimes for all the wrong reasons. And I think [fans] were right when they said FIFA 12 was the best simulation of football we've done - it's certainly my proudest moment so far. I think FIFA 13 is going to take the best of all the past titles and put their features together.”

We already experienced FIFA 13 back at E3 2012 last month and we were quite impressed with the new AI that made the whole experience feel much more alive.

FIFA 13 is out for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 28.
