The US Food and Drug Administration has issued a new warning related to acetaminophen, one of the key ingredients in Tylenol and other painkillers, but which can also be found as a hidden ingredient in various other pills.

It can cause severe skin reactions, including a serious rash and blisters that can make the skin slough off the body, ABC News reports in the video below.

As the expert featured in it points out, the timing of the warning shouldn’t surprise anyone, since medicine is under constant reevaluation because it is always a “work in progress.”

Consumers should not panic about this new warning either, she says: this is a very serious but also a very rare reaction. Overuse of such pills could also trigger it, so those taking them as prescribed by a doctor or at the pharmacist’s recommendation run a lower risk of getting it.

She also stresses the importance of seeing a specialist before and after taking medicine.
