F-Secure is a company which has rolled out numerous security applications targeting most operating systems out there, but most focused on Windows. Today, the company has just rolled out a new beta, namely Home Server Security Beta 1.00 build 166, a special software solution which is supposed to bring more security to Windows Home Server systems. Just like the other technologies rolled out by the company, Home Server Security protects the computer of all kinds of malicious content, including here viruses, spyware, Trojan horses or other types of infections.

The beta is offered as a part of the F-Secure Technology Preview so the testers who agree to download and try out the application in order to send feedback to the parent company will receive a free 12-months license that would let them use the product for free for one year.

Here are the main new features of the application, as they were published by the F-Secure officials:

■ Real-time scanning - Whenever files are accessed on Windows Home Server, they are automatically scanned for viruses and spyware. ■ Manual and scheduled scanning - The whole system or selected folder(s) can be checked by user request or on defined schedule. ■ Quarantine management - Infected files, spyware and other potentially unsafe files can be placed in quarantine where they can be reviewed, restored from and deleted. ■ Automatic updates - Virus and spyware definition databases as well as software updates are received and applied automatically. ■ Seamless integration with Windows Home Server - The product is installed and administered via Windows Home Server Console, and it sends notifications through Windows Home Server Connector. Easy installation and use - Quick setup and minimum configuration.

In order to be able to download and give the software a try, users are required to fill in a short form but, due to some technical problems, the beta is not available at this time. All the users who try to register for the beta get the same error: "Error 287. We were unable to provision a subscription key for you. Please try again later." However, keep an eye on this article as we'll update it as soon as the program becomes available.
