Monolith Productions, as the developer, and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, as the publisher, have sent word that they plan to launch new content for the first person horror shooter F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin via digital distribution. The DLC is set to be available at the beginning of April but Monolith and Warner Bros. are not offering too many details at the moment.

Their press release says that “a new dimension of paranormal horror, cinematic combat and highly kinetic action” will be brought to all gamers who get the upcoming DLC. They also add that “the new content will include a 'Toy Soldiers' map pack that will allow players to experience multiplayer from a new perspective, as well as a premium theme and picture pack.” Apparently, the new content doesn't even have a name yet. It's not clear whether all the platforms on which the game was launched will get the same package.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin arrived earlier in the year on the PC, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 from Sony. It continues the story of the franchise from where the first installment of F.E.A.R. left off, without taking into account the events of the two expansion packs that were not created by Monolith. Alma, the creepy girl, features prominently in the story line and the ending is clearly meant to spawn a sequel or at least an expansion pack.

F.E.A.R. 2 was a pretty good shooter, although not including anything special. The fire fights were engaging, the slow motion mechanics worked well, and the A.I. of the enemy forces was pretty good. Still, the game lacked suitable arenas where to get into a good firefight, with a few exceptions. The game was pretty much a failure as far as the horror element goes, mainly because it tried to use the same tricks throughout the 12-hour experience. The only element that was really creepy was the way Alma and the player came together at the end of the game.
