Portability is an extremely important concept in technological design nowadays and most peripherals' manufacturers are trying to make their devices as slim and easy to carry around as possible. And that's exactly the case with the Canadians over at Matias, who have announced an ultra-portable keyboard with a twist: it can be folded for transport.

Designed as a desktop-like keyboard for notebook and laptop users, the Matias Folding Keyboard features high-quality dome switches that give it a responsive, tactile feel, with enough resistance to hold the weight of the user's hands. This reduces long-term fatigue and makes it a lot more comfortable to use.

Furthermore, a Tab key on the number pad allows one-handed number entry into forms and spreadsheets, leaving the user the other hand free to hold or flip through information being entered. Moreover, the Matias Fn key allows quick and easy access to keys that normally require a long reach, which means that the Arrow keys, Page Up, Page Down, Delete and others can now be typed right from the home row. The keyboard has also the standard volume controls: Volume Up, Volume Down and Mute, as well as function keys, page navigation keys and cursor keys.

As mentioned right from the start, the Matias Folding Keyboard is quite a portable peripheral. Thus, it measures around 45.7 x 12.7 x 2.2 cm (unfolded), 25.6 x 12.7 x 3.0 cm (folded) and weighs just around 433 grams, which means that users will have no problem carrying this thing around.

Although it's not yet available on the market, the manufacturers promise to have it ready by Christmas, when it will retail for around 60 US dollars, which is a bit pricey as far as keyboards go, but worth it, taking into account its level of portability.
