Visceral Games, as the developer, and Electronic Arts, as the publisher, have revealed that they are planning a Limited Edition offer of Dead Space 2 for the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony. Those who are interested in picking up the newly announced package will be able to experience Dead Space: Extraction, which until now was exclusive for the Nintendo Wii, using the PlayStation Move controller. The Limited Edition will be launched at the same time as other versions of Dead Space 2 on January 25, 2011.

Dead Space: Extraction tells a story set before the events of the first Dead Space game, showing how a mysterious cult and a monolith led to the necromorph invasion Isaac Clark needs to defeat. The game is a light gun shooter where the player uses a variety of weapons to take out enemies while moving along a predetermined path.

The PlayStation 3 version will have full High Definition graphics and a new control scheme permitting the player to use the motion tracking Move peripheral but also the DualShock 3 and the SixAxis controllers. Extraction will be sold via the PlayStation Store.

Steve Papoutsis, an executive producer working on Dead Space 2, stated that “We’re thrilled to couple two terrifying experiences in one box. With the Limited Edition, PlayStation 3 fans will receive real insight into the cause of the necromorph infestation and the destruction that followed. This is the genesis of the dark and twisted world Isaac inhabits. The addition of support for PlayStation Move allows us to bring a truly unique experience that was previously unavailable to players and we can’t wait to see what they think.”

The Electronic Arts – Sony deal might be a response to the announcement from Microsoft and Activision that until 2012, map packs for all Call of Duty titles will first be launched on the Xbox 360, as has already happened with the Stimulus and Resurgence packs for Modern Warfare 2.
