Most people work on the assumption that the worst that can happen when using a public toilet is being disgusted by the unhygienic conditions, or maybe even getting a rash.

As it turns out, there is also the possibility that the toilet will explode, and injure one so badly that getting medical help is mandatory.

Media reports say that, just recently, a woman suffered serious injuries after being ill-inspired enough to pay a visit to a toilet at a bar in Barcelona.

According to Daily Mail, the toilet in question exploded just as the woman was using it.

Apparently, the blast was so powerful that it caused second and third degree burns on both of the woman's legs.

These injuries were so severe that, in order to treat her, doctors had to resort to skin grafts, the same source goes on to detail.

Shortly after the incident, the woman filed a lawsuit against the bar's owners, and is now expecting them to pay for the physical and psychological trauma she suffered.

By the looks of it, the explosion was due to a built-up of methane inside the toilet cubicle. In turn, the built-up probably happened as a result of poor ventilation and unhygienic conditions.

Although this has not yet been proven, it is believed that the methane inside the toilet cubicle was ignited by a spark that occurred when the unsuspecting woman turned on the light.

All things considered, it is likely that the blast was made all the more powerful by the fact that, because the woman was sitting down, the methane in the toilet was compressed.

Interestingly enough, it was not very long ago when an accumulation of methane caused a dairy farm in Germany to catch fire. As reported at that time, a bunch of flatulent cows were the ones that got blamed for this incident.
