Hackers are breaching websites all the time, in many cases causing significant losses to the companies that run or own them. The worst part is that although they’re aware of the risks, few developers properly focus on security when making a website.

In a presentation he made at the Developer Developer Developer! security conference in Sydney, security researcher Troy Hunt, an MVP at Developer Security, detailed the mistakes made by developers when creating websites.

His talk focuses on a number of aspects, including the safe transmission of authentication cookies, password security, and ways to alter information that’s supposed to be inaccessible.

His talk also highlights the motivation factors of hackers, and even takes a look at the workings of the infamous LulzSec collective.
