Exfoliation removes dead cells on the surface of the skin and cleans the clogged pores

Exfoliation process relates to any method used in order to remove the dead cells layer from the surface of our skin. It is usually performed with abrasive substances that are able to clean the pores, clogged with dust and dirt particles, and also to eliminate the dead cells from our complexion.

Exfoliation is very important for a healthy and bright complexion and should be performed regularly. The skin is permanently regenerating; therefore skin dead cells will always lie on the surface of the epidermis.

Besides removing the dead cells layer, exfoliation helps detoxifying the skin, improves blood and lymph circulation at skin level, decreases dark circles under the eyes and calms the nervous system.

Exfoliation can be made with natural resources such as salt, maize flower, loofahs (a plant that looks as a natural sponge and has an abrasive surface), granular face soaps etc.

Another safe and very efficient method is based on chemical exfoliation. This type of exfoliation is performed by using chemical substances, namely hydroxy acids. These acids work by dissolving the intercellular "glue" that "sticks" the cells to the surface of the epidermis. It is a safe method that has no side effects.

Glycoic, Lactic and Salicylic acids are hydroxy acids that are extremely effective on shedding the dead cells layer. They are usually contained in all kinds of cosmetic creams, abrasives and exfoliating masks. Out of these three, the Glycoic acid is the most powerful and usually causes irritations, that is why its use is not very recommended.

[IMG-3]However, all women that regularly exfoliate should pay extremely high attention to what products - natural or chemical - they use for performing this process. Most of them tend to use strong exfoliants on the premise that if a little is good, that a lot must be excellent.

It is a completely wrong idea that strong exfoliants will work better than soft ones, because the reality is that the effect that they have on the skin is simply reverse. Namely, if one uses a soft exfoliant this will help her remove the dead "debris" layer from her complexion and will bring to surface another layer of newly formed cells that will confer the skin a radiant and healthy look.

But if one becomes an "exfoliation maniac" and uses stronger exfoliating products believing that this will dig deeper, she is wrong. Strong exfoliants go beyond the dead surface cells of the epidermis and will remove also the skin cells that act as a barrier against environment factors, causing permanent sensitivity of the skin, premature aging, acne and other skin infections.

Therefore, try avoiding using products that are "hard" on your skin because this is not the solution for a bright skin. The most indicated and appropriate solution is to regularly exfoliate your skin (once or twice a week) because the skin is continuously regenerating and there will always be a layer of dead cells on the surface of the skin. Do not think that once you have applied a strong exfoliant (like body instead of face exfoliants or natural abrasive products with rough particles) on your skin it will stop skin from producing dead cells because this is against biological rules and would not happen.

Other important rules concerning the right way of performing the exfoliation process relate to the fact that this procedure will be more efficient if the face is previously exposed to a Steam bath. The steam bath is very simple to perform: just keep your face for a few minutes over a recipient with boiling water, but pay attention not to let it burn the skin. The hot steams will open the pores of the skin and will allow the exfoliant to clean all the dirt inside them.

Also, after exfoliating the face, do not wash it with warm, but with cold water. The cold water will completely close the clean pores and will not let any dust particles or other infectious agents to penetrate the surface layer of the epidermis.
