Only 250 units available

After other handsets had done it, Apple's iPhone goes platinum too. Not in the way a music CD can go, by being sold in more than one million copies (although the iPhone sold more than that and will continue to sell), but in the way a mobile phone adds a "little" make-over and is dressed in precious metal for people who don't have any idea about what to do with their money.

The Platinum Edition of the iPhone comes from Goldstriker International, who also covered the phone in Gold, two months ago, making it available for the price of 699.95 GBP (about $1,400). Goldstriker is a company known to be "responsible" for different other handsets that got a richer look and a higher price: LG Prada, LG Shine, Nokia Luna, Nokia 8800 or Motorola KZR.

Only 250 Platinum iPhones will be created, which reminds me of the limited edition of Land Rover Sport, released this year in North America with only 250 units available too. Well, if you're not interested in cars you can skip this line... But I guess it's too late now.

The Platinum iPhone will be available starting January 2008, via Goldstriker International, at a price of 1,099.95 GBP, meaning approximately $2,230. Which is a lot of money, but I'm sure the 250 units will be sold quickly, as there is a huge hunger for exclusivity and luxury. Most probably, the Platinum Edition of the iPhone will come unlocked, since there's no word about a possible carrier.

Anyway, don't think this is the most expensive iPhone, as there is another Limited Edition, dressed in 420 diamonds and valuing a bit over $41,000 - the price of a car, a very nice one actually. Or, if you're not interested in cars, it's the price of many many many bicycles.
