Echelon Corporation has issued an official report today announcing the appointment of industry technologist and former Apple-staffer, Robert Hon, to the position of Senior Vice President of Engineering.

According to Echelon, Mr. Hon held leadership positions at Packeteer, and Cadence Design Systems, as well as Apple. Most recently, he served as executive vice president of engineering at ConSentry Networks.

He will now be responsible for Echelon’s technology and product development.

Specifically, he is known to have held a senior management position at Apple, though no specifics are given.

“Mr. Hon brings more than 25 years of technical expertise to Echelon,” the company said today.

He was the vice president of engineering at Network Physics, where he led the team delivering network-visibility and diagnosis products. This was before working to ConSentry Networks, Hon’s new employer reveals.

Mr. Hon was also the vice president of engineering at Packeteer, which deals with network-traffic shaping and deep-packet inspection.

As far as his studies are concerned, Hon was on the faculty of Columbia University.

He received a B.S. in Engineering and Applied Science from Yale University, and holds an M.S. and Ph.D in Computer Science from Carnegie-Mellon University.
