Here's how to track down and trap the monster with ease

Evolve rolled out last week and finally offered fans an ambitious shooter experience that allows for both cooperation, as four players take control of four hunters, and competition, as they face off a player-controlled monster.

In case you're still fumbling about while inside the game's different modes, we've rounded up a few tips in our Gamer Diary series, this time focusing on the Trapper class for the hunters.

Being a good Trapper is important

While all classes play an important role in Evolve, the Trapper one is essential in actually finding and trapping the monster before the beast reaches level three and can complete its goal.

A few general tips first, before jumping into the three specific characters that are available in the Trapper class.

First up, be careful where you place the arena. Sure, you might be tempted to throw it out as soon as you spot the monster, but it's important to do so in a more open area, preferably away from cliffs, buildings, and other such things. While monsters may seem like they're trapped, a good player can find hiding spots besides cliffs or climb as high as possible in order to avoid the damage of the hunters.

When the arena starts to go down, make sure that you can inform others of this fact and prepare for another chase after the monster.

Maggie is the first Trapper you unlock and arguably one of the most versatile. You can track down monsters by using your pet Trapjaw Daisy, who can also revive fallen comrades, much to the annoyance of many monsters. Harpoons are also really good at limiting the range of movement for monsters, while the machine pistol can output decent damage.

Abe is also a good Trapper for those who already have experience in tracking down the monster. The stasis grenades are great at slowing down the enemy while the tracking pistol can be used not only to maintain focus on the monster but also to tag potential wildlife, which is going to disappear if the monster tries to eat it. His custom shotgun takes a bit of time to master but it's also quite powerful.

Last but not least, there's Griffin, who uses his sound spikes to track the monster, his harpoon gun to immobilize it, and the Gauss sub-machine gun to inflict damage. Experience is needed to ensure that you make optimal use of these skills and gear, but he's also rewarding.

Stay tuned for more tips in our Evolve Gamer Diary series in the next few days.
