David Noel Cecil, also known as Evil, pleaded guilty to unauthorized modification of restricted data, the authorities believing him to be the one behind the Platform Networks hack.

When he was arrested, the police believed the suspect to be a threat to the National Broadband Network (NBN), reports the Central Western Daily.

The prosecution agreed that if the suspect would plead guilty to two counts, the other 48 charges would be consolidated into a smaller number of offences.

“In relation to the other 48 charges, it’s been agreed ... that some of those charges occurred within 10 seconds of each other,” said Peter Ringbauer, Cecil’s lawyer.

The Register informs that even though everyone suspected he endangered Australia’s cyber-infrastructure, shortly after NBN’s CEO came forward to state that even though Platform Networks was an NBN retail provider, it hasn’t actually been active.
