Released today, March 1, in the iTunes App Store for iPhone, Evernote 4.0 is a completely revamped version of the popular note taking app available for iOS devices since the debut of the App Store.

The team at Evernote begins its announcement by reminding Apple fans that Evernote for iPhone launched on the same day that Apple switched on the lights in the iTunes App Store.

“Over the course of the two years, we’ve gained incredible insight into what makes an app great,” the company states on its noteworthy blog.

“What we learned is that our users want faster access, easier note creation, better browsing and more ways to find what they’re looking for. Put another way, getting stuff done should be a snap,” Evernote Corp. says.

As such, the team of highly dedicated developers decided to give the whole app a facelift, improving the experience ten fold.

“With that in mind, we went back to the drawing board and reconsidered every single aspect of Evernote for iPhone. We think you’re going to love the changes,” the team said.

According to our initial tests, the new Home Screen and Snippet View are the key changes. Then comes the new new Note screen, and some new abilities, like removing attachments, selecting multiple camera roll images at once, and assigning notebook, tags and location.

Browsing by notebook and tag is a breeze, while the new resource views include:

· Image view - displays all the images from all the notes. Tap on an image and the note will open. · Attachment view - displays a list of all the attached items (excluding images) contained in the notes · Map view - drops pins on a map for all notes with geo-location information.

The Search function now gets its own screen.

“That’s because all of your saved searches appear below the search bar,” the developers note. “You can either create a new search or tap on a saved search using a desktop version of Evernote.”

The updated app also boasts a reminder about offline notes and notebooks.

According to the folks at Evernote, fans can expect many of the enhancements from this iPhone redesign to arrive on the iPad as well.

Moreover, upcoming releases of Evernote for iOS will include more user-requested features, including shared notebooks, the ability to edit notes with styled text and multimedia within the app, and notebook stacks, the developers said.
