The drone was right “there” filming the colorful explosions

Fireworks have been a favorite entertainment during celebrations ever since they were invented, way back in the 7th century. That's right, China has been using it in festivities since that far back.

Yet in all these centuries, there hasn't been a way to get up close and personal without likely coming to harm.

Being at the center of an explosion is never a good idea after all. Fortunately, technology has the answer: drones!

Flying drones to be precise. And one of those drones was used, recently, to shoot footage of a fireworks display from right in the middle of the show, up in the air.

As far as I know, there isn't a way to shove a camera into a firework rocket and see exactly how the explosion goes without the camera being ruined. So this isn't “quite” an example of a film shot from inside a firework.

Just being there, though, where the sparks and lights shot by like comets, was enough to yield a pretty cool video, which you can watch below. Not exactly a perfect epicenter, but close enough.

The drone used to make the film was a DJI Phantom, and the camera was a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition.
