Developers talk about the remaining problems and ways to address them

Like every massive content addition, Eve Online's recent deployment of the Dragon Patch raised some issues concerning gameplay balance and known bugs. All this and more were covered in a recent developer's blog, where CCP reassured players of their future intentions. It appears the late patch deployment was caused by just one bug which prevented the cluster to properly start. The funny thing is the Dragon patch worked on all the other clusters including Serenity, just not Tranquility while the deployed fix managed to power up Tranquility while halting all other servers.

Eve Online currently features two types of queues, the log-on and the jump, with problems occasionally emerging due to code limitations. The way the log-on queue is disabled is that its limit is set very high, allowing thousands to log on every minute. It only kicks in at startup, preventing the crash of the cluster and if the system you are trying to log into isn't loaded yet. This resulted in many clients timing out while waiting or even worst, get stuck.

As far as the jump queue is concerned, it is set to kick in at 95% CPU usage is effectively disabled. This kind of resource usage implies a very bad node state and you are more than likely to get stuck by warping into such a space system. Unfortunately the setting was reset to 85% CPU, which is quite common, thus with up to 8 constellations being on the same node, that would effectively close down about 80 solar systems.

The Dragon Build brought about an annoying cloaking bug, raising issues of game balance since the ability now appears to be overpowered. A small patch will fix the low probability issue this week, as developers urge players to be patient. There is more to fix and upcoming patches will address cloaking properly.

Last but not least, devs tackle the thorny issue regarding the 700 billion ISK scam, where one player made off with approximately $80000 worth of in-game currency. CCP reissued what they've been saying all along, since the first money scam first ensued. Unless there was a violation of the EULA or Terms of Service, they can not and will not intervene. It seems only natural, in a reality-like environment that Eve Online promotes. People transferred ISK to the person of their own accord. "We're not going to replace trust, nor are we going to fix situations where people send their money to some guy in hopes of getting it all back. Then again, we'd like to support IPOs and other such models, but that's down the road."

Here's a complete list of known issues that are still in the game after Dragon Patch's recent fix: ■ Overview settings are erased after applying the patch. ■ It is not presently possible to move a ship into space from a ship assembly array. ■ The text in a buy/sell order window will not display correctly if the window is part of a stack. ■ Hanger sorting may not always apply correctly when the hanger is opened. ■ Switching between the security status panel and skills panel in the character sheet will cause the skill names to disappear. ■ The size icon (frigate, cruiser etc) is broken for NPC's in some missions, and shows them all to be cruisers. ■ Reloading while cloaked (or while jumping) will cause the ammo to be destroyed. ■ Agent offers and missions given out prior to the downtime may not be acceptable/completable due to the change in agents which occured during the patch. ■ The buddy list causes an exception when a buddy logs in. We recommend you press esc, and switch off the "show exceptions" option on the system menu. ■ Market history not displaying values over 9,999,999 properly ■ Overview does not auto refresh when names of objects are changed. need to close/open the overview to make the names update ■ Ally column on overview not showing alliance tags. ■ The login queue displayed on the login screen is not accurate. The queue is disabled at all times unless we put a user limit on the server. ■ Some incorrect text is displayed in the logs of audit log containers. ■ The Stasis Webifier I is being displayed as a Shadow Serpentis Stasis Webifier in clients with the German UI enabled. ■ The message when clearing a channels password is incorrect. ■ Overview columns automatically resize. This should stop occuring once you manually set the size of a column. ■ Switching skills being trained causes the character sheet icon in the overview to incorrectly state that you have no skills training. ■ Sorting by quantity when selecting items to enter into escrow does not work. ■ Sorting by "next free time" in the science and industry interface is incorrect. It sorts alphabetically, not numerically. ■ When entering items into escrow, the "Are you sure" popup is badly formatted. ■ You cannot access refining arrays options from the selected items icons, only through the right click menu from the array itself. ■ The "My Agents" option on the map is very blobby if you have very good standings. ■ Jump clones not working - when trying to jump from a station that already has a jump clone in it the jump clone fails without warning, to remedy this simply remove the jump clone from the current station and it will be replace with your current body when you jump.
