Surprising no one, Twitter cofounder and former CEO Evan Williams has announced that his role at the company is greatly diminished these days and that he's already thinking about what's next. With Blogger and Twitter under his belt, he doesn't really need an introduction and anything he's working on is going to get plenty of attention.

"I spent about five and a half years of my professional life on Blogger. Though not a headline-grabber these days, it has continued to evolve and grow to be one of the top 10 web services on the planet," Williams wrote.

"I've now spent about five years on Twitter, as well—in a variety of different capacities," he continued.

"The reason I left Blogger/Google when I did is that I felt it had reached a place where it was on solid ground and in capable hands (at the time, Jason Goldman’s as product manager). Though still an independent company, I realized Twitter may be at a similar point today," he added.

Understandably perhaps, Williams is bored at Twitter. The company has grown tremendously for the past few years and is now at the point where it needs to start making money and continue to add users.

Important tasks, obviously, but not very exciting. And entrepreneurs like Williams need excitement for them to be at their full potential.

It's a move for the best perhaps. Current CEO Dick Costolo seems to have a good grip on the company and Twitter is rolling out new ad features solidifying its revenue. Though still small, revenue is set to grow this years and in the years to come.

Williams hasn't said what he's working on next. Perhaps it's because he doesn't even know yet, it may be too early. But he has promised to keep people informed as soon as he's got something to show.
