Endorsement deals make up for a great part of the revenue of stars. When they’re not anywhere to be had, there is also the option of extending business to other fields, such as fashion, jewelry, fragrance and, more recently, designing bedding and furniture items. Actress Eva Mendes is the latest to join the long line of celebrities turned designers of one thing or another, launching her luxury bedding line at Macy’s over the weekend, as MTV can confirm.

The new line, Vida by Eva Mendes, announced in the fall of last year, is anything but plain, just as the actress herself is quite a colorful and full-of-life presence on the scene. Inspired by her Latin origins, the bedding items are rich in color and texture, and play on unexpected combinations meant to bring a ray of sunshine and a smile in all customers’ bedrooms, MTV says of the new release.

“The actress, who’s best known for roles in movies like ‘Hitch,’ ‘The Spirit’ and ‘Ghost Rider,’ officially launched her new luxurious home collection on Saturday at Macy’s in New York City. ‘Vida by Eva Mendes’ – vida means ‘life’ in Spanish – came to fruition last September when Macy’s first announced the partnership with the starlet. ‘Vida is about easy luxury – the colors, fabrics and textures that I live and love, brought to life in a stylish, comfortable and affordable way,’ Eva said in a press release. ‘I’m excited to partner to see my passion for design come to life.’” MTV writes.

Since Mendes has often been vocal about the way celebrities make an extra dollar by putting out merchandise that has nothing to do with their profession, it’s believed she invested a lot in designing and creating the items that make up the collection. Later last year, for instance, she rebuffed comparisons between her and Jennifer Lopez, saying she was not out to make more money, but rather to perfect her acting craft, which was why she was not interested in putting her name on countless products, the way JLo did.

However, now that she has, the reception she’s getting is great, perhaps even a bit unexpected, if one is to judge by the reviews in the media. “Created alongside her business associate George Augusto, [the collection] can be now be found [sic.] on Macy’s website (and in stores). The home decor brand, just like its Latin inspiration, includes five main spicy flavors: Bettina (a ‘saturated mix of warm colors’), Isabella (a ‘combination of gold and rich shades of mocha’), Rosa (‘gold tones and ornate embroidery’), Kalia (‘romantic detailing’) and Jayde ( a floral pattern that brings the ‘vibrancy and beauty of nature indoors’).” MTV further says of the collection.
