Crops rely heavily on these insects in order to get pollinated, yield the best of harvests

We have already discussed about how, throughout the past months, several concerns have been raised with respect to how, as a result of changes brought about by climate change and global warming, several natural pollinators might witness a decline in their population or even fall off the biodiversity map altogether.

There is no need to go back to this topic, yet reference must be made to the fact that, according to a new study, European wild bees alone are presently worth a whopping €22 billion (roughly $28.18 billion / ₤17.60 billion).

In other words: should they suddenly disappear, food production on this continent is to suffer major losses, which will only add up to those already caused by changes in global environmental conditions.

As sources report, along with unpredictable weather patterns, the increased use of various chemical compounds as pesticides also threatens the European wild bees population.
