An increasing number of users are turning to overclocking and tweaking in order to squeeze the very last bit of performance out of their high-end computer products. And that is precisely why more and more manufacturers are advertising their products as being ready for such practices, while also offering them with bundled software tools. One of those manufacturers is Taiwanese MSI that, as a side note, is no stranger to overclocking, especially since it has a number of factory-overclocked cards included in its product lineup.

Micro Star International, in collaboration with memory and computer components maker OCZ and Tweakers.net, will host the MSI European Overclocking Challenge, which will take place right before NVIDIA's annual NVISION event. Between August 22-24, in the "Westergasfabriek" in Amsterdam, users from all parts of Europe will try to win some of the prizes at stake, including an MSI Overclockable Notebook.

This event will provide overclocking enthusiasts with the means by which they can prove their capabilities in taking a computer's performance beyond its factory settings. It will also promote MSI's P45-based motherboard lineup, as these mobos will be the provided platforms on which the competitors must prove their skills. The overclocking platforms will include Intel's E8400 CPU and MSI's N9600GT graphics cards. OCZ's contribution to the event is to provide the cooling technology, memory and power supply designed to cope with the requirements of such practices.

"By organizing this event on European level, we create a wide platform for overclockers. They can meet face to face and test and tweak our mainboards thoroughly. We at the same time get great feedback of these power users," says Angelique Berden, Marketing Director at MSI. "Each country will be represented by one Overclocking team, so it will be a heavy battle and a great challenge. The Challenge will be covered and broadcasted by most leading IT media in Europe." she added.

The competitors will come from Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Turkey and the United Kingdom. They will be using wPrime and CineBench in their attempts to squeeze even the last drop of performance out of MSI's P45 motherboards.
