Europa Universalis IV is already a very complex game with plenty of options for gamers, but with the coming El Dorado expansion, religion is becoming more important for nations like Maya and Inti, and there is a new system called Liberty added as a free patch for all players.

The team at the Paradox Development Studio explains that, for the Mayan civilization, the company wants to simulate the city league aspect and their infighting, with a new system based on reforms that will see the player lose and reconquer territory as they strengthen their faction and gain power.

Once the final reform is passed, gamers can try to Westernize when they are next to an advanced nation.

Paradox adds, “The Maya religion starts with +1 Tolerance of the True Faith and +1 Possible Advisors and their reforms give -10% Land Maintenance, -2 Global Unrest, +10% Infantry Power, +1 Colonist and -20% Core-Creation cost.”

For the Inti, religion is based on an Authority value which is linked to territory and events, and once a 10-province threshold is reached, a reform can be passed. A civil war will then start, and gamers need to win it in order to allow their nation to continue to evolve.

For their unique religion, the Inti get “+1 Tolerance of the True Faith and -0.05 Monthly Autonomy in all provinces and their reforms give +10% Manpower Recovery Speed, +1 Colonist, +0.5 Yearly Legitimacy, +0.05 Land Morale and -10% Core-Creation Cost.”

The Liberty concept will be free to all Europa Universalis IV owners

The 1.10 patch that will accompany the launch of El Dorado will refine the Liberty system that was initially only used for colonial nations.

It will now be used by all vassals and Personal Union junior members.

Their Liberty desires will be built on game elements like opinions, relative diplomatic tech level, and relative power.

If the value goes over 50, vassals will be disloyal and act in their own interest, while seeking backing to gain their independence.

When Liberty reaches 100, a rebellion will take place.

Paradox says that, in El Dorado for Europa Universalis IV, the new concept will mean that major nations might need to spend more time making sure that their vassals are loyal, which might mean that less blobs will form on the map.
