The El Dorado expansion for Europa Universalis IV is now out, allowing gamers to experience a host of new mechanics for the grand strategy title, but gamers should be aware that getting the associated free 1.10 patch for the game will break their Ironman saves, which means that they need to take some additional steps in order to finish them.

The official forum announcement states, "So if you have old saves you want to complete before embarking on the search for El Dorado, please revert back to the previous patch (1.9.2) level and complete the games you started. Your old saves might still work. But we strongly recommend finishing off any old saves in the previous patch level before updating."

Gamers who want to roll back the 1.10 save for Europa Universalis IV need to click on the game in Steam, choose Properties, go to the Beta tab and then choose the patch they want to use from the list.

Ironman is a game mode which encourages players to only save and load when they enter or exit the game and a lot of community members play them with their favorite nations in order to test their skills.

There are four new terrain types which make the map more realistic and gamers will also see that their vassals will have a new Liberty desire, which will significantly affect long-term plans.

The new expansion introduces new religions and mechanics for nations in the area and make them more interesting to play, with a Doom mechanics which encourages them to use sacrifices in order to ensure they long-term prosperity and to give them a chance to stand up to Invaders from Europe.

There are also new mechanics linked to Liberty and gamers can now choose to search for the Seven Cities of Gold or the Fountain of Youth, which launches new dynamic event chains with some interesting consequences.

El Dorado also adds the Nation Design, which means that gamers can create their own countries to play with, choosing all their defining characteristics.
