The team at the Paradox Development Studio is announcing that it is now working on a new expansion for their Europa Universalis IV, called El Dorado, which is designed to focus on cultures like the Aztecs, the Inca and the Mayans, while introducing a range of new mechanics to the core game.

The announcement trailer does not deliver too many details but it does talk about gods and blood sacrifices, setting a clear tone for the coming content.

The most important new feature in El Dorado for Europa Universalis IV is a new Nation Designer, which is deeper than before.

Gamers will be able to choose the capital of their country, the provinces that are included, the culture that’s being used at the start of the campaign, and the leader who is in charge.

Paradox explains that “This expansion’s historical focus on the Central American and South American theaters of exploration will challenge you with new decisions worthy of a king or conqueror. As the Aztecs, subject the Mexican plain to your rule but make sure you have enough vassal kings to sacrifice to your angry gods.”

The European nations will also face bigger challenges as they seek to push deeper into the unknown territory and the jungles in order to investigate rumors about wealth and fountains of youth.

Europa Universalis IV has new religions and mechanics

Paradox is also introducing three new religions, the Nahuatl, Inti and Maya, which are focused on Sun worship and on blood sacrifices that will affect their gods.

The Seven Cities of Gold are part of the game and conquistadors can try and find these mythical places.

The Treaty of Tordesillas is implemented and allows nations to get exclusive rights to areas of the world as long as they stay on good relations with the Pope.

El Dorado for Europa Unviersalis IV will also improve the interaction between trade fleets and pirates, and privateers can be used to plunder gold shipped back to Europe.

At the moment, the expansion is still a work in progress and the developers are saying that they are planning to deliver it to gamers during March via digital distribution platforms, although no price has been mentioned so far.
