After a Dynasty Warriors spinoff managed to top the Japanese videogame chart last week, this one, a role playing title took the top spot in the Land of the Rising Sun. Etrian Odyssey III: Caller of the Starry Seas did not come close to the sales of previous chart toppers but it still managed to push up those of the platform on which it launched.

When it comes to hardware, the PlayStation 3 succeeded in selling 38,877 units in one week, just ahead of the PlayStation Portable handheld, which managed 37,445 during the same time frame.

The Nintendo Wii home console is also up there, challenging the Sony domination of the Sony platforms with sales of 30,938. The best sold DS variant is the LL, which has a larger screen and greater viewing angles, which managed to move 21,583 units to gamers, while the older DSi sold 15,526. If all three variations of the device are taken into account, the DS would actually lead the sales chart.

The DS Lite is still alive with 4,110, which puts it ahead of the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, which only moved 2,676 consoles in one week, ahead of the PlayStation 2 and the black sheep of the PlayStation family, the Go handheld.

In the videogame chart, Etrian Odyssey III: Caller of the Stary Seas from Atlus for the DS has a good first week with 87,765 copies sold and pushed Fist of the North Star Warriors from KOEI for the PS3 to second with sales of 71,629. A sports-oriented title took both third and fourth spots in the chart, with the PlayStation 3 version of Pro Baseball Spirits 2010 from Konami being the best sold, with 57,136, followed by the PSP version, with 50,726. New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii seems to be glued to fifth spot.
