Developer Tindalos Interactive and publisher Focus Home Interactive have released a brand new gameplay video for the upcoming real-time strategy video game Etherium, also revealing that the game is coming later this month.

The game takes places in a faraway galaxy, where three powerful factions vie for control of a mysterious resource known as etherium. The valuable resource can only be found on a handful of planets in the region, which causes the three races to become locked into a ruthless struggle for domination.

The developers tout a range of innovative features, in addition to the classic real-time strategy gameplay, including dynamic weather events that influence the course of battle and neutral, native troops, that you can either destroy or try to rally to your side.

Players will be able to fight on planets with various biomes, among which desert, tundra and jungle, and will also have to manage a top-down strategic overview of the game, similar to the one found in 4X games, in addition to the ground combat.

The latest video shows the Conquest mode, a non-linear main campaign, during which you can conquer opponents, research new technology, send spies on intelligence-gathering missions, and choose your next target.

Classic RTS action with some neat features

You'll be able to build a base and enlist infantry, tanks, aircraft, and even giant colossi before heading over to the enemy's base and leveling it, and each of the three factions has its own strengths and weaknesses, being able to manipulate climate, perform planetary bombardments, and so on.

The game also enables up to four players to engage in multiplayer action and compete in all-out deathmatches.

A new entry in the real-time strategy genre is certainly welcome, especially since the genre is pretty vacant, apart from Starcraft 2's overly competitive action. At the end of January we got Grey Goo, and now we're getting Etherium, so things are looking pretty good so far.

Etherium is currently available for pre-order on Steam, with a 10 percent discount. The game is coming out on March 25.
