Ericsson has just announced that they will organize an event, gathering all the local officials. There is a high chance that the Swedish company will make a statement of the fact that they will open a service centre in the area of Iasi.

Since the beginning of the year, Ericsson has been prospecting the Romanian market in order to decide whether the area near Iasi is the best for building this service centre. For this, officials from Ericsson have visited heavy machinery plant Fortus and showed high interest in the possibilities the buildings might bring. Moreover, in February this year, they met with Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu in order to announce him of their intention to develop a company centre in the region of Iasi.

As part of prospecting the region's potential, people at Ericsson also talked with the prefect of Iasi, Nicusor Paduraru, in order to find the most appropriate area for building the service centre. According to the first statements coming from the Swedish company, they need an area of 1000 square meters, where up to 500 employees will be working.

Ericsson has been highly secretive about the gathering that will take place tomorrow. Still, it did mention that their announcement will be "maybe the most important since Ericsson's entry onto the Romanian market."

Their decision of opening such a service center makes a high probability, especially considering the dimension of the event where they plan on making the announcement. Even more, this comes after several months of prospecting the local market, which has high chances of having reached a final decision.

Ericsson is the second company among the biggest telecommunications producers that chooses Romania as a country viable for expansion. Some months ago, Nokia has decided to start work on building a plant near Cluj. It will start production at the beginning of year 2008.
