Ericsson has been chosen by AIS to expand its existing GSM/EDGE network in Bangkok. The expansion will allow AIS to increase both its network coverage and capacity.

Under the agreement, Ercisson will have turnkey responsibility for building the network, providing network design, deployment and integration services, including core and radio network. Ericsson will also provide its spare part management service, lowering AIS' operational costs.

With increased network capacity and coverage, AIS' subscribers will enjoy superior quality and performance.

Wichien Mektrakarn, President of AIS, says: "The selection of Ericsson reinforces the existing close partnership between the two companies and ensures that we have a world-leading provider of proven mobile technology."

Hans Karlsson, President and Country Manager of Ericsson Thailand, says: "Ericsson is very honored and proud to be chosen by AIS once again. We are pleased to continue our successful cooperation with AIS by providing world-class technology and telecom services to meet subscribers' requirements. We look forward to further collaborative projects with AIS as it brings further advanced mobile services to its customers."

The contract is worth around USD 110 million.
