The Stylus Photo R280 Printer, RX595 and RX680

Although the launch date choice has not been the most fortunate, considering the fact that Canon has just released its uber-monstrous product line-up, the people over at Epson have also come up with three photo printing-oriented devices of their own, namely the Stylus Photo R280 Printer and the RX595 and RX680 all-in-ones.

Thus, all of the three ultra hi-definition models, as the company calls them, are capable of providing very high printing speeds, as for example up to twelve 4 x 6 -inches (10 x 15 cm) photos in as little as 2 minutes, 17 seconds. Moreover, the users can choose their favorite printing format, as well as the printing media, and each of the three new models from Epson has been fitted with the company's MicroPiezo print heads with DX5 "smart nozzle" technology, which generate up to five sizes of ink droplets for the sharpest detail and smoothest gradations.

Now, let's see what each of these three things can do. Thus, the Stylus Photo R280 is a single-function compact Ultra Hi- Definition photo printer that offers very good printing qualities at a very affordable price. It has all of the shared features and performance offered in the Ultra Hi-Definition product line, including fast print speeds, and its slim form factor makes it a very good solution for smaller spaces.

The Stylus Photo RX595 all-in-one, the second in the series, shares the same basic features of the R280, but adds scanning, copying and robust PC-free photo printing capabilities. It incorporates a 2.5-inch color LCD, which can be used for viewing, selecting and cropping photos, and provides enhanced connectivity options, since users may print directly from digital camera memory cards and USB flash drives or from digital cameras or cell phones via the PictBridge connection or optional Bluetooth module. The device attains a maximum scanning resolution of 1200x2400 dpi and even sports a Photo Restoration feature for bringing some life back into old photos.

Finally, the RX680 model is the most advanced of the three new devices released by Epson. It sports pretty much all the features provided by the RX595, but has also been fitted with two paper trays and a duplex printing system, which makes it a lot more efficient than the previous model. Moreover, it sports an Auto Photo Correction with preview option, which allows users to correct photos in real time.

All the three new models will be available in September, at MSRPs of $99.99 for the Epson Stylus Photo R280, $149.99 for the Epson Stylus Photo RX595 and $199.99 for the Epson Stylus Photo RX680.
