Enemy Territory: Quake Wars from ID Software and Splash Damage was released today in North America. Although a Linux-native client for this game isn't available yet, the developers will make one soon.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a sequel to the four years old Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, but with the game taking place in the Quake universe. ET: Quake Wars introduces aircrafts and vehicles that can be controlled by the players and its maps are much larger than the other past ID Software games. The user can choose on which side he/she will fight: the Strogg and the Global Defense Force (GDF).

If we go back in the past, when Quake 4 was released, we'll see that no native Linux client was available on the game's launch day. But after only two days, the Quake 4 Linux client was introduced. If ID Software will be as fast as they were with Quake 4, we will have an ET: Quake Wars Linux client available very soon.

Todd Hollenshead, ID Software CEO said about the game: "Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a new and unique approach to multiplayer combat. It combines team objectives with distinct player classes, cutting edge graphics, cool vehicles, and powerful deployables. Whether your thirst is for the savior or domination of Planet Earth, Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars is there to quench it."

The game is set within the expansive Quake universe, in the year 2065, and can be played either online or offline with computer controlled players. A maximum number of 24 gamers can be online, and they can choose to play as the human GDF or the alien Strogg, selecting one of the five different character classes. During the game, the persistent character growth will reward the players for teamwork, while the defined mission and class objectives will guide new gamers to important contributions on the battlefield.
