Endian Firewall Community, a "turn-key" Linux security distribution that turns every system into a full-featured security appliance with Unified Threat Management (UTM) functionality, is now at version 3.0.

Endian Firewall Community 3.0 is a major release in the series and comes with a lot of new features. It's now the latest stable release and replaces the old 2.5.2 version.

Users can upgrade from a previous version, but they will have to be careful when doing so. The developers are offering some advice on this matter.

“For those who come from Endian Firewall Community 2.5.2: you do not need to re-install anything. Just upgrade to the latest version,” they say in the official announcement.

“Finally the Endian Firewall Community 3.0 has reached its final stage. Enjoy the last improvements as soon as they are available and download the Endian Firewall Community 3.0 Bleeding Edge version. Review, test and contribute to the Community. And all in all, do not forget to report your findings on our bug tracker.” Highlights of Endian Firewall Community 3.0:

• HTTPS filtering has been improved; • User management for OpenVPN has been implemented; • Integrated certificate authority has been made available; • External certificate authority support has been added; • User password and certificate management (two-factor authentication) are now available; • Live network traffic monitoring (powered by ntopng) has been added; • System status graphs are no longer lost at every reboot; • Images for SMTP mail statistics graphs are now provided; • Serial port speed is now always set to 115200bps; • Password changing is now available from the console menu; • The HASH algorithms MD5, SHA1, SHA2 256/384/512-bit, AESXCBC, and IKEv2 have been updated; • Support has been added for TUN mode.
