Austrian manufacturer Emporia offers handsets that are optimized to be used by the elderly users that aren't very accustomed to high-tech mobile phones.

The phone comes with a simple design and is rather large, with the buttons being larger than your usual and easy to read. Instead of packing a camera or other advanced features, the phone comes with loud ringtones, a big bright screen and emergency button.

It was showcased at CeBIT and it targets users that are over 50 years old, coming with only the most basic functions such as making/receiving calls and text messaging.

Five emergency numbers can be pre-set and the handset also includes a large red button on the back that will dial those numbers in case the user needs assistance.

The phone is equipped with a 2.7 inch monocolor screen with orange backlight that is bright and quite easy to read, being more convenient for users with poor eyesight, while the ringtones and speaker can be set very loud ensuring that the heard of hearing will still know when the phone's ringing. Moreover, the Life phone also features an extra-strong vibration function to alert its owner when someone's calling.

What's also interesting is that the handset can also draw power from normal AAA batteries if there's an emergency and the phone's standard battery is dead. Other features include a speakerphone function, birthday reminders, alarm clock and the ability to send SMS messages to more recipients at once. According to its manufacturer, the handset should be available for purchase worldwide starting May this year.
