Billy Crystal attended the Emmy Awards 2014, held last night at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, but his task in the actual awards gala was the most difficult of all other stars involved, because he had to give a speech within the Robin Williams tribute.

The actor killed himself earlier this month, after struggling with depression for many years, and more recently, with the early symptoms of Parkinson’s, with which he had been diagnosed some months before his final desperate gesture.

Robin and Billy were good friends and that transpired into the way he talked about him, about his energy and this ability he had to always, no matter the circumstance, make people smile or laugh.

“He made us laugh hard, every time you saw him on television, in arenas, hospitals, homeless shelters, and even in a dying girl’s living room. The relentless energy was kind of thrilling. I used to think if I could just put a saddle on him and stay on for eight seconds… I would be ok,” Billy said.

“It’s very hard to talk about him in the past because he was so present in our lives,” the star added. At the end of the very touching speech, he mentioned that Robin Williams would continue to live in his heart for ever, just like he would in the hearts of his millions of fans.

The Emmy producers followed this up with a video montage of some of Williams’ most iconic jokes. You can see both in the video below: quite a touching and absolutely perfect tribute to an actor who dedicated his life to making others happy, even when he was going through personal hell.
