Snippet from new song leaks, prompts angry reaction

Eminem seems determined to offend as many people as possible while he’s still promoting his new album, which will probably offend even more when it drops. The other day, a snippet from a new song called “Vegas” leaked online, prompting a very heated reaction from Australian female rapper Iggy Azalea.

She has every right to react this way, because on the track, Em raps about raping her. We can’t embed the snippet here because of its graphic lyrics, but you can probably still find it on YouTube.

For what it’s worth, Iggy is not the only one saying right now that Eminem is crossing the line with many of his lyrics on the new material. He’s yet to say anything.

Eminem raps, Iggy responds on Twitter

So, in Vegas, Em has a bit that goes something like this: “Unless you’re Nicki [Minaj]/ grab you by the wrist let’s ski/ so what’s it gonna be/ put that [expletive] away Iggy/ You don’t wanna blow that rape whistle on me.”

Shortly after the leak, the media and fans were already reacting to it, saying that Eminem needed to exercise a bit more control over his lyrics and stop glorifying domestic violence. Iggy too is responding to those about her, generalizing the Eminem situation into one in which “old men” become aggressive to female entertainers because it’s an easy thing to do.

“I'm bored of the old men threatening young women as entertainment trend and much more interested in the young women getting $ trend. zzzz,” she says on Twitter.

She gets personal too, expressing disappointment in the Detroit rapper: her 14-year-old brother is one of his biggest fans and he just got to hear his idol rapping about raping his sister.

“Women in music have the bigger balls anyhow we endure much more harassment and critic,” she adds.

Outdoing himself in offending people

For the past couple of weeks, Eminem has been getting a lot of flak in the media for all the wrong reasons. He first rapped about punching Lana Del Rey in the face “twice like Ray Rice,” mocking the incident when the former NFL star suckerpunched his then-girlfriend Tanay in an elevator, hitting her with such force that she knocked her head against the railing and was knocked out for several minutes in a row.

On his next appearance after that, at the HBO concert on Veterans Day, Eminem wished everybody a “Happy [expletive]-ing Veterans Day!,” which was also considered a sign of disrespect. Even if that’s what he usually does when he’s performing, he should have known to tone it down on this occasion.

Now, it’s this Iggy rape comment that’s getting attention, but Eminem is still not saying anything about it.

In the past, whenever his lyrics got too much media attention, of the negative kind, Eminem would just blame it on his alter ego Slim Shady who, being the creative expression of an artist, could not be held to obey the same social norms as he, Eminem, would.

Slim Shady is still working overtime, voices online are saying right now. Do you agree?
