Eminem says he never meant to offend Nick Cannon or Mariah Carey, “but it is what it is”

A couple of days ago, one of the tracks included on Eminem’s comeback album, “Relapse,” leaked on the Internet. While fans were perhaps none too shocked about what its lyrics said, Nick Cannon, husband of Mariah Carey of one year, was extremely offended about the bitter attack Em unleashed and even took to his official blog to “challenge” the rapper to a face-off. Now, Eminem is apologizing for the unintentional diss, MTV News reports.

According to the always controversial rapper, it could very well be that Nick Cannon misunderstood the lyrics for the simple reason that he hadn’t listened to the entire record or at least other tracks Em put out throughout the years. Dissing is his main thing, Eminem says, but he’s still extremely sorry if he caused any offence to Mariah or her husband Nick, because that was never his intention.

“With the song ‘Bagpipes From Baghdad,’ I kinda spazzed out on that record, but I guess I spazzed out on every record. There’s a line on there that was a little harsh. It’s a harsh line... But it’s like this, the way I look at it: I had no idea he was gonna take it like he took it. I had no idea Nick Cannon was gonna start wildin’ out on me. No pun intended.” Eminem says, as quoted by the aforementioned publication.

The apology, though, does not come just like this, Eminem says, since he only started thinking about what he was saying on the track once he got word of Cannon’s challenge, which sounded something like, “I’m going to make you wish you never spoke my name and regret the ungodly things you said about my wife” for this “act of racist bigotry.” Cannon, some believe, was completely justified to say the things he said because, call it what you may, the diss was clearly there and it was clearly offensive.

“I heard about some of the things he was saying. I didn’t read his blog or anything. But it is what it is. He’s supposed to defend his wife, and I expected him to do that. But at the end of the day, it’s a line I said; it’s a song. What I actually meant to say is, I wish them the best. That’s what I meant to say. That’s the whole message of the record.” Em says, adding that he doesn’t plan on taking Nick up on his challenge. Hopefully, he explains, he won’t have to – “but it is what it is.”
