Sir Elton John was rushed to the hospital on Friday after what his manager described as a bout of influenza with minor complications. Some shows were canceled, as fans were offered assurances that the singer would return to the stage in almost no time. As it turns out, it will be another while until that happens, as reports have it Elton John will be out of the picture for about 4 weeks, the Daily Mail says.

After being admitted to a London hospital and undergoing a series of tests and X-rays, a representative of the singer announced that more shows would be canceled. Apparently, the bout of flu was not as mild as initial reports made it seem, due to the fact that it was also combined with an E.coli infection, which means the legendary singer will have to spend at least 4 weeks in hospital to recuperate, sources tell the British media.

“Sir Elton John has been forced to cancel a string of concerts after contracting E.coli and an aggressive bout of influenza. The 62-year-old had already pulled out of a series of concerts in Dublin, London, Liverpool, Newcastle and Sheffield citing ill-health. But gigs in the U.S. cities of Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon were yesterday shelved after the singer was admitted to hospital,” the Mail writes.

“Sir Elton was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London on Friday and is not expected to return to the stage for another two weeks. A statement on Sir Elton’s website said he was being treated for E.coli, a bacterial infection, and the flu, which he contracted at the same time. It is understood that the singer has undergone a series of blood tests, X-rays and scans to find out why his illness has proved so debilitating,” the British tab further informs.

Sources close to the singer tell the media that, because of the infection and the flu, his voice is almost gone and he can hardly talk without breaking off with severe coughing bouts. To prevent his condition from getting worse, doctors will probably recommend that he be bedridden for about a month at the very least, the same insiders reveal.
