Comedienne turns back time by taking a trip down memory lane

In the opening monologue of her latest show, Ellen DeGeneres got a bit nostalgic by talking about her career in television, while also telling fans it's not the destination that matters in life, but rather the journey there.

You can see the entire segment above.

To show that “it really does get better,” Ellen showed a couple of photos from her youth, in which she wore the questionable fashion of the time and even rocked a mean head of perm hair.

She also played a commercial she did many years ago, which allowed her to make the move from stand up comedian to Emmy host and then landed her her first show.

The idea, she said, was to always remember that things could – and would – be better tomorrow.

“Do I wish that footage didn't exist any more and am I mad at the Internet? Yes, of course,” she told the audience.

“But that commercial led me to my sitcom, which led to me hosting the Emmys, which led me to this talk show, which allows me to be here, right now, drunk as a skunk,” Ellen joked.
