Elite: Dangerous is a huge game and problems were unavoidable, even if none of those the community has flagged down so far has made the title unplayable, and the development team at Frontier Development is announcing an ambitious program to test and to deliver updates for the title in the coming months.

An official forum announcement explains that the first 1.1 patch will be entering the beta phase during the first week of February and will introduce a new way of working together with other players in the galaxy, alongside a batch of fixes and changes.

Michael Brookes, an executive producer on Elite: Dangerous, states, “We have some some good news for planners of long journeys - V1.1 will also have a significant increase in the maximum distance for the route planner. We’re currently looking at extending this to 1,000 light years!”

The 1.2 update for the space sim is even bigger and will be introduced in the first week of March for testing, with a focus on the Wings features and other multiplayer improvements.

So far Elite: Dangerous has been receiving point updates, which are small and designed to eliminate urgent problems or make changes that do not affect too many members of the community.

Elite: Dangerous will also have paid expansions

All the patches for the title, even those that introduce new features, will be offered for free by Frontier Developments, but it seems that there are also plans to deliver full-fledged expansions, although limited details are offered at the moment.

Michael Brookes adds, “we’re also working on paid expansions for the game and these will have their own beta periods as well, we’ll again make details available of how this will work as we near their release.”

Elite: Dangerous is a solid space sim that takes the classic exploration and combat concepts of the series and adapts them for a modern audience.

Players are free to choose how they want to progress, with careers ranging from pirate to business mogul available, and the expanses of space really do look impressive in the recent Frontier release.
