Video game publisher Stardock has announced that the first expansion for Elemental: War of Magic will be called Fallen Enchantress and will deliver a host of improvements to the game, helping the troubled release realize its full potential.

The game will be launched as a stand alone package and all those who buy Elemental before the projected summer launch window will be able to get a discount for it.

The expansion will add new regions to the Elemental map, lands that need to be conquered by a strong kingdom before they can be settled, like the Bhinadmi Fissure, a chasm that allows earth elementals and demons to flow into the world and which can also be closed by taking on a tough elemental world.

The expansion will introduce new spells and new magical equipment while also delivering a new economic system and introducing more ways to plan and execute the tactical battles that are at the heart of Elemental.

Derek Paxton, who is the lead designer for Fallen Enchantress and has created Fall from heaven before that, stated, “In Fallen Enchantress we wanted to focus on exploring the world outside your kingdom’s borders. The world isn’t empty and waiting to be settled, it is dangerous and needs to be conquered.”

He added, “There are unique locations with their own history and guardians; monsters settled in their lairs and vast wild land areas that offer their own challenges and rewards. There will be areas the player would do well to avoid for most of the game until he builds an army that is able to conquer them.”

Elemental has also launched a design contest which offers fans of the game prizes as long as they can create a compelling quest which can be added to Elemental.

For all those who have bought Elemental in its initial buggy stages the Fallen Enchantress expansion will be delivered for free, as will be the second big add on to the game, which could also be launched during 2011.
