DICE, the developer, and publisher Electronic Arts have announced that internal data gathered by the company shows more than 2.3 million units of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 have been sold to gamers since it was launched and that reviews from about 46 reviewers awarding a score over 90 to the new first person shooter.

The two companies believe that the performance, coupled with the sales registered until March 30, will make Bad Company 2 the best sold videogame of March in the United States.

Karl Magnus Troedsson, who is the executive producer working on the Battlefield franchise, stated that “We are so thrilled with the success of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 sales and fan response. In the first 48 hours we had such a tremendous rush to multiplayer gameplay that our servers experienced overwhelming demand. This is a testament to the massive response players have had worldwide for the extraordinary action experienced in the Battlefield sandbox.”

He also addressed the server problems some players had experienced, saying that it was a question of capacity not scaled to the success of the initial launch of the game. With a patch now out and the server infrastructure significantly expanded, players should have less issues with their online gaming.

Here are a few other statistics showing how significant the launch of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was: more than 81 billion points have been earned by players in multiplayer games; 43 million weapons and items have been unlocked for the same game mode and players have managed to log close to 3 million hours of online play in the space of just one real-world game. 230,000 players were online at the same time.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is set to get two new maps on March 30, free for all those who buy the game new. On the same day, Modern Warfare 2 will receive its first Stimulus map pack, costing 15 dollars for three new maps and two repurposed from the first iteration in the series.
