Video game publisher Electronic Arts has announced that gamers who buy the Xbox 360 version of its upcoming first person shooter Battlefield 3 will get two game disks, one of them containing the multiplayer side of the game and the cooperative play levels and one that delivers the single player campaign.

Players will need to swap the two depending on what they are planning to do during their game session.

The PlayStation 3 version of the game will come on just one Blu-ray disk, because of its bigger capacity.

There have been rumors a few years ago that Microsoft was ready to create a Blu-ray add-on for the Xbox 360 but the device never materialized and the company announced that it will be supporting the DVD format for the life time of its current home console.

It's not clear whether the difference between two disks and one is something that players actually take into account when deciding what version of a particular game they plan to buy.

Battlefield 3 is being developed by DICE and uses the all new Frostbite 2 game engine, which allows for more detailed environments to be created and gives players more options when it comes to destroying them.

The game will aim for a more somber and realistic atmosphere than other titles in the military shooter space, telling a set of stories that try to reflect the challenges that real soldiers have to deal with.

The multiplayer will also rely on realism and on environmental destruction.

Battlefield 3 is set to arrive on October 25 in the United States and three days later in Europe on the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC.

It will be in direct competition with the Infinity Ward developed and Activision Blizzard published Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which launches in early November.
