Paul Sage, the creative director working on The Elder Scrolls Online, says that the Player versus Player focus of the upcoming MMO exists because the community behind the game universe requested it.

The developer tells Joystiq that, “There's a real desire in the community to have PvP. It's just one aspect of taking a game online because it's great to cooperate and to see how you stack up against other people. Plus it's not just the rumor of war; it's actually getting to participate in active battles in that war.”

ZeniMax Online says that up to 200 gamers will be able to share a battlefield at the same time, testing their skills and their organization.

The Elder Scrolls Online will take place a thousand years before the single-player titles of the series and will involve three factions battling each other and a core threat.
