When The Elder Scrolls Online was first revealed by Bethesda, some of the most important selling points were the big plans for Player versus Player modes, which are designed to allow big armies to clash and battle for control of a particular area.

But the ZeniMax Online team is also working to make sure that smaller player groups and those who prefer to experience the MMO solo have something to do during the larger events.

Paul Sage, the creative director working on The Elder Scrolls Online, tells Joystiq during a preview event for The Elder Scrolls Online that in Alliance War battles, where the three factions face each other, small groups of gamers will be able to snipe stranglers and capture smaller facilities to help their side.

ZeniMax is still hoping that most players will try to also join the bigger battles, but gamers who stick to solo action will still have an Elder Scrolls experience.

The MMO is designed to use a mega-server technology to make sure that the entire population of the game can play together and ZeniMax Online has also designed a solution to make sure that queues are never a problem.

Groups of players will be included in instanced campaigns, which will have a fresh version of Cyrodiil to explore, allowing ZeniMax Online to control the player population for each and balance the experience so that all factions have solid representations.

The Elder Scrolls Online takes gamers 1,000 years in the past of the universe, to a time when three great alliances battled to control Tamriel while also fighting the threat of a Daedra.

The developers are promising an MMO that focuses on the combat mechanics and on groups of players that collaborate in order to tackle enemies.

Launch will take place on the PC this year.
